Public Safety Director Harr expressed his appreciation for the hospitality of the Landscape Arboretum
' in hosting the Public Safety Commission meeting. Director Harr also introduced the Landscape
Arboretum staff, the Commission and Public Safety staff.
Peter Olin, Director of the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, informed the participants of
the operations and security concerns of the Arboretum.
Director Harr introduced Sgt. Larry Wittsack of the Sheriff's Department, who has been assigned as
supervisor for the Chanhassen deputies.
The Fire Department experienced their first save with the heart start machine this past week.
' Beth Koenig reported on the Neighborhood Watch and Crime Prevention Programs. Beth had the
opportunity to speak recently at a Chanhassen business concerning personal safety. She will also
address the senior citizens regarding personal safety. A grant has been request from Target for crime
' prevention materials. Captain Ron Holt offered his assistance as a crime prevention resource. Beth
expressed an interest in working with the Arboretum staff in regards to personnel safety and crime
prevention.
Director Harr distributed the proposed hunting/shooting maps. Discussion followed. A recommendation
of approving this map will be on the March agenda.
' The Public Safety Commission appointments have been tabled until the February 14th City Council
meeting.

Chairperson Dave Johnson reported on the productive informational meeting with Carver County
Sheriff's Department, Chanhassen Public Safety, Chanhassen Fire Department, State Patrol, and '
Ridgeview Ambulance. He also discussed long range planning and goals of the Commission to be
addressed at the March meeting. Issues and committees would be appointed at this meeting.
Buildin g Official Steve A. Kirchman distributed information on the 1992 & 1993 building permit '
numbers and valuations, which were up 25% in 1993. An expected 330 - 350 homes will be built in
1994. '
Director Harr updated the Commission on the emergency management program. Beth, Carol and
Officer Zydowsky are assisting with set up of the EOC (Emergency Operations Center). The Inspectil
Division is equipping two 4 -wheel drive vehicles for emergency personnel use. Building Official
Kirchman discussed the inspectors involvement with inspections, valuation and mitigation of damages
the event of an emergency involving building structures. A procedures manual is currently being
developed and Inspector Steve Torell will be attending next month a seminar on building emergency
management. I
Commissioner Dummer expressed concerns on the traffic light violations occurring at Dakota
Avenue/Hwy 101 and Hwy 5. Director Han will bring this issue to the attention of City Engineer
Charles Folch. '
