' SUBJ: Alcohol Policy, Chanhassen Recreation Center Community Room
Although considerable research has been undertaken in this area, schedules did not allow a
' complete report to be prepared. Background material will be compiled for distribution on
Tuesday evening.
' The question being asked of the Commission is straight forward.
"Do you wish to cater to events (receptions, banquets, etc.) held in the Chanhassen
Recreation Center community rooms whereat alcohol is served "?
' Note: The complexities of this issue, both legal and political, are numerous. Before we
commit additional time to this issue we would like to hear from the Commission and
Council. This issue is scheduled for Council review on August 28.
UPDATE: 8/24/95 \
' The presentation of this issue should not be interpreted as an attempt by staff to secure liquor
sales at the new Recreation Center. On the contrary, due to the sensitivity of the siting of the
Recreation Center (adjoining an elementary school), staff questions the necessity to raise the
' issue. The fact remains, however, that the center is a public building and inquiries
concerning receptions and banquets have been received.
Park and Recreation Commission Action of August 22, 1995
The Commission made short work of the question posed to them in this memorandum.
' Commissioner Roeser moved, Commissioner Mcger seconded, to designate the Chanhassen
Recreation Center alcohol free. The motion passed unanimously.
