REGULAR MEETING
SUMMARY MINUTES
MAY 29, 2012
Mayor Furlong called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. The meeting was opened with the Pledge to
the Flag.
COUNCIL MEMBERS PRESENT:
Mayor Furlong, Councilman McDonald, Councilwoman Ernst,
and Councilman Laufenburger
COUNCIL MEMBERS ABSENT:
Councilwoman Tjornhom
STAFF PRESENT:
Todd Gerhardt, Laurie Hokkanen, Kate Aanenson, Todd Hoffman, and Mitch
Johnson
PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS:
None.
CONSENT AGENDA:Councilman McDonald moved, Councilwoman Ernst seconded to approve
the following consent agenda items pursuant to the City Manager’s recommendations:
a. Approval of Minutes:
-City Council Work Session Minutes dated May 14, 2012
-City Council Verbatim and Summary Minutes dated May 14, 2012
Receive Commission Minutes:
-Planning Commission Summary Minutes dated May 15, 2012
b. Approval of Private Fireworks Display Permit at Lake Minnewashta on July 4, 2012, Americana
Fireworks Display Company.
c. Award of Bid for Banking Services.
d. Amendments to City Code Chapter 20, Zoning Concerning Storage of Recreational Vehicles and
Recreational Facility Light Height.
Resolution #2012-33:
e. Approve Resolution Accepting Donation from Primrose School of
Chanhassen for Community Event Sponsorship Program.
f. Approve Summary Ordinances for Publication Purposes for Rezoning the Following Planned
Unit Developments (PUDs): Arboretum Village, Highlands at Bluff Creek, and Liberty on Bluff
Creek.
All voted in favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 4 to 0.
VISITOR PRESENTATIONS:
PRESENTATION OF GRANT TO PURCHASE THERMAL CAMERAS FOR THE FIRE
DEPARTMENT, CENTERPOINT ENERGY.
City Council Summary – May 29, 2012
Tom Henning from CenterPoint Energy presented a check in the amount of $2,300 to the Chanhassen Fire
Department for heat imaging equipment.
PRESENTATION OF DONATION FOR SUMMER CONCERT SERIES, KLEINBANK.
Mark Giordano from KleinBank presented a check as a donation towards the Summer Concert Series.
Mitch Johnson reviewed the schedule and performers.
LAW ENFORCEMENT/FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATE.
Lt. Jeff Enevold reviewed year to date crime statistics and comparisons to previous years, how to reduce
thefts from vehicles and announced dates for the Citizens Academy. Assistant Chief Ed Coppersmith
reviewed the year to date calls for service statistics and calls since the last council meeting. Councilman
Laufenburger asked for a review of the guidelines regarding recreational fires.
RESIDENTIAL PLANNED UNIT DEVELOPMENT (PUD-R) AMENDMENTS: REQUEST TO
AMEND THE FOLLOWING RESIDENTIAL PLANNED UNIT DEVELOPMENTS:
CHANHASSEN VISTA, CHAPARRAL, FOX HOLLOW, LAREDO LANE, NEAR MOUNTAIN,

OAK PONDS, PHEASANT HILL, AND SARATOGA 3 ADDITION, CITY OF CHANHASSEN.
Kate Aanenson reviewed the proposed amendments for each development. In the Laredo Lane
neighborhood, Mayor Furlong clarified that because of the 6,000 minimum lot size, lots could not be
further subdivided in the future. After thanking the planning staff for their hard work on this project
Mayor Furlong asked for a motion.
Councilman Laufenburger moved, Councilwoman Ernst seconded that the Chanhassen City
Council approves the attached ordinances rezoning the following Planned Unit Developments:
Chanhassen Vista, Chaparral, Fox Hollow, Laredo Lane, Near Mountain, Oak Ponds, Pheasant

Hill, Saratoga 3 Addition and adopt the Planning Commission Findings of Fact. All voted in favor
and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 4 to 0.
APPOINTMENT TO THE PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION.
Mayor Furlong moved, Councilwoman Ernst seconded to appoint Jim Boettcher to a 3 year term
beginning April 1, 2012 to the Park and Recreation Commission. All voted in favor and the motion
carried unanimously with a vote of 4 to 0.
COUNCIL PRESENTATIONS.
Mayor Furlong thanked the City’s Park and Rec staff, American
Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, Fire Department, Boy Scouts, and the Chanhassen High School band
and vocalists for their help with the Memorial Day celebration. Councilwoman Ernst thanked Mayor
Furlong for his presentation on the history of Chanhassen. Councilman Laufenburger informed people
of the dates and times of future Chanhassen Red Birds games.
ADMINISTRATIVE PRESENTATIONS.
Todd Gerhardt provided an update on the weather sirens
that went off on Sunday, and thanked the Chanhassen Villager for their recognition of Bob Meuwissen’s
60 years of service with the American Legion, Honor Guard, 20 plus years as a volunteer fireman and
recognition as a Chanhassen Distinguished Award winner.
CORRESPONDENCE PACKET.
Mayor Furlong commented on the letter to the residents north of
Lake Minnewashta affected by the 2012 street reconstruction project.

Councilwoman Ernst moved, Councilman McDonald seconded to adjourn the meeting. All voted in
favor and the motion carried unanimously with a vote of 4 to 0. The City Council meeting was
adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
