G. Presentation of Maple Leaf Award, Jeff DanielMAPLE LEAF AWARD PRESENTED ON JUNE 25 2012
Jeff Daniel served as a Park and Recreation Commission member from 2006 to 2012 and
served as the Chair from 2008 to 2012. A life -long resident of Chanhassen, Jeff has the unique
perspective of having participated in the city's parks and recreation programs for his entire life.
Jeff is a passionate individual that came to work for the commission intent on doing his part to
ensure that citizens continue to enjoy quality local park and recreation facilities and programs.
During his tenure, Jeff volunteered to work at all of the department's special events with
the annual February Festival Fishing Contest being his favorite. Jeff supported the creation of
new recreation offerings including the establishment of the Rec Center Sports Program and
Bandimere Disc Golf Course. Pioneer Pass Park and Riley Ridge Park were acquired under
Jeff's leadership. These new neighborhood parks will serve hundreds of families in the
community starting next year. Jeff also played a key role in the expansion of Bandimere
Community Park and the expansion of the city's trail network.
As Chair of the Park and Recreation Commission, Jeff maintained a 96% attendance
record and represented the commission with enthusiasm and integrity. Visitors were greeted
warmly and offered ample opportunity to address their concerns or interests with the
commission. Jeff mentored new commissioners and made a point of making everyone
participating in meetings feel welcome. It is with great pleasure that we honor Jeff Daniel,
retiring Park and Recreation Commissioner, with a Chanhassen Maple Leaf Award!
