City Council approval requires a simple majority vote of the City Council present. DISCUSSION Park & Recreation Phone: 952.227.1120 Staff is requesting that the City Council approve a resolution of support for a Fax: 952.227.1110 grant application for improvements to the intersection of TH 101 and Pioneer Trail. The grant application is for roadway widening, turn lane, signal, and Recreation Center drainage improvements at the intersection. The improvements will improve the 2310 Coulter Boulevard safety and operation of the intersection. Phone: 952.227.1400 Fax: 952.227.1404 City staff is currently working with representatives from MnDOT and Carver Planning & County on the preliminary design of TH 101 between Lyman Boulevard (CSAH Natural Resources 18) and Pioneer Trail (CSAH 14). Web Site www.ci.chanhassen.mn.us The City applied for this grant in 2011 and was not selected; however the City did receive feedback from MnDOT's review panel on its 2011 application. MnDOT indicated that the 2012 application should clarify the limits of the TH 101 project that received Federal Surface Transportation Program (STP) funding and provide more detail on the improvements that are eligible for Municipal Agreement grant Chanhassen is a Community for Life - Providing for Today and Planning for Tomorrow Todd Gerhardt TH 101 & Pioneer Trail: Grant Application July 23, 2012 Page 2 funding. MnDOT staff believes that clarification on these items will result in a stronger application and improve the chance of being selected for this program. If the City's application is successful, the grant will provide additional funding for the overall TH 101 project. Staff has been working with MnDOT and Carver County to establish the budget and financing plan for the project and the Municipal Agreement program was identified as a possible source of additional funding. The maximum funding available for any individual project through this program is $702,000. Staff is proposing to request the maximum funding amount. The Municipal Agreement applications are due on July 31, 2012. Successful grant applications will be posted in November 2012. Right -of -way, utility relocation, and final design costs are not eligible for funding; and WHEREAS, if the project is funded, the City would be responsible for the remaining project costs (engineering, some construction, and right -of -way needs); and WHEREAS, the remaining project costs are proposed to be funded through the TH 101 Improvements project, City Project No. 12 -06. NOW THERE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Chanhassen supports a grant application for roadway improvements at TH 101 and Pioneer Trail (CSAH 14).
