Finance In November, 2010, the City applied for a grant from the Metropolitan Council for I/I
Phone: 952.2271140 mitigation. MCES had a total of $3 million of available grant funding. Each City on the
Fax: 952.2271110 surcharge list was given an opportunity to receive a certain amount of matching fund dollars
up to $50,000.00. Depending on funds available after communities applied for the grant, the
Park & Recreation Cities could receive additional matching dollars. The City of Chanhassen was awarded a

Improvement Project.
Recreation Center
2310 Coulter Boulevard The W. 96 Street Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project was never constructed. In 2011, staff

Fax: 952.2271404 deteriorated. Lining this pipe was a priority due to the condition of the pipe from a structural

Phone: 952.2271130 Staff worked with the MCES to determine the eligibility of the Chanhassen Village

eligible for matching funds. The first project was the 2010 Street Improvement (Red Cedar
Public Works Point) Project No. 10 -01. The second project was the 2011 Street Improvement Project No.
7901 Park Place 11 -01. The third project was the Chanhassen Village Apartments Sanitary Pipe Lining
Phone: 952.2271300 Project No. 11 -02. The last project is the 2012 Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation Project No. 12-

Senior Center In order for the MCES to provide the City grant funding, a resolution must be passed

resolution and signed contracts.

www.ci.chanhassen.mn.us MCES has informed us that a new grant will be available in 2013. The total grant available is
$4 million. The requirements will be very similar to the current program. Staff intends to ask
Council to authorize staff to apply for these grant funds at a future Council meeting.

RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO APPLY FOR AND EXECUTE A
GRANT AGREEMENT FROM THE MCES MUNICIPAL INFILTRATION/INFLOW
GRANT PROGRAM
WHEREAS, in November, 2010, the City applied for a grant from the Metropolitan
Council in the amount of $50,000 which was available to cities that had excess I/1 in their sanitary
sewer system but a resolution approving application must first be passed; and
WHEREAS, the City was awarded a matching fund grant in the amount of $78,760; and
WHEREAS, the project for which staff originally requested funds for from the grant was
the W. 96 Street Sanitary Sewer Improvements which staff believes is a large contributor of I/I to
the sanitary sewer system however this project was not completed; the MCES has qualified four
other projects; and
WHEREAS, the four additional projects included the 2010 Street Improvement (Red
Cedar Point) Project No. 10 -01, the 2011 Street Improvement Project No. 11 -01, the Chanhassen
Village Apartments Sanitary Pipe Lining Project No. 11 -02 and the 2012 Sanitary Sewer
Rehabilitation Project No. 12 -05. All work associated with these projects has been completed.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Chanhassen City Council approves a
resolution authorizing the City to apply for and execute a grant agreement of up to $78,760.00
from the MCES Municipal Infiltration/Inflow (I /I) Grant Program for I/I Mitigation.
Passed and adopted by the Chanhassen City Council this 10 day of September, 2012.
