MEMORANDUM 1
TO: All City Employees ,

SUBJ: Consider Adoption of a City Employee Drug Policy 1
Because the City receives monies for the Federal Government (Community Development Block
Grant Allocations), our City auditors have requested the City adopt a "Drug-Free Workplace
Policy." Even though the Federal Government is requiring the City to adopt such a policy, it just
makes sense that we have a policy in place to ensure a safe and healthy working environment
for all employees.
Attached you will find a sample Drug -Free Workplace Policy that the City is considering
adopting. Please review this policy either by yourself or within your department. If you have
any questions regarding the proposed policy, please let me know. If not, I will be scheduling this
item for City Council approval for May 24, 1993.
1
I have also attached a copy of some information regarding the "dangers of drugs" for you to read.
All employees should be committed to making sure that we all work in a "drug -free workplace.
1
To ensure that this happens, I will be distributing additional information or holding small
workshops to discuss the danger of drugs, and the potential problems that could occur through
the use of drugs.
1
Your input on this item is very important. These are the rules that we all have to live by, so
1 please take the time and read all of the attached information.
Thank you! i
