Input on Upcoming School District 112 Referendum
School District 112 is looking for input from the City Council on their upcoming
referendum on November 4. Staff has prepared a resolution highlighting
specific facts about the district and the referendum. This resolution is very
similar to the action a previous City Council took during the 1999 school district
referendum. Staff recommends approval of the resolution.
ACTION NEEDED: Adoption of this resolution requires a simple majority of
those members present.

A RESOLUTION REGARDING SCHOOL DISTRICT 112 BOND/OPERATING LEVY
WHEREAS, Independent School District 112 is one of the fastest growing school district
in the metropolitan area; and
WHEREAS, current enrollment projections predict that the high school will be 360
students beyond capacity by 2005 and the elementary schools will be at capacity just in time for the
new elementary school is to be opened; and
WHEREAS, the system of public schools is a cornerstone of quality in this community;
and
WHEREAS, learning is one of our officially-adopted community values; and
WHEREAS, the Chanhassen City Council believes that quality education has a positive
effect on community market values; and
WHEREAS, District 112 has proposed a bond referendum in the amount of $54.75 million
to build and improve schools, purchase land, and upgrade existing facilities; and
WHEREAS, District 112 is also proposing an operating levy of $124 more per student per
year for 10 years in order to help pay for the operation of existing and the proposed new schools.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Chanhassen, Minnesota urges residents to educate themselves about the referendum and to vote on
November 4, 2003.
