MEMORANDUM

SUBJ: Appointment to Southwest Metro Transit Commission
We goofed!! At our last meeting we should have appointed two people to the Southwest Metro
Transit Commission. Councilwoman Dockendorf was appointed to a three year term expiring
on December 31, 1995, and another person should be appointed to replace Councilman Wing who
is unable to continue in this position because of other time commitments with the City Council,
Tree Board and Fire Department.
As can be seen in the memo from Diane Harberts dated December 14, 1992, this position could
be filled by a resident, however, they do prefer that the position be filled by another Council
member. The city has received an application from Dale Geving who has shown an interest in
serving on the Southwest Metro Transit Commission. Mr. Geving previously served on this
commission when he was a Council member in the mid- 1980s.
The Council may want to give consideration to Mr. Geving's application, or appoint a member
of the Council.

SUBJ: Appointment to Southwest Metro Transit Commission
Attached please find a memo from Diane HarbCrts outlining the two positions available on the
Southwest Metro Transit Commission. Ursula Dimler's term expired on 12/31/92, and a member
of the City Council should be appointed for a`3 year term expiring on 12/31/95.
The other position was originally held by Councilman Mason, who had to resign once he was
appointed to the HRA (both groups meeting the same night). Councilman Wing agreed to fill
the position until the end of 1992, however; due to time constraints with his work on the Council,
the Tree Preservation Board and the Fire Department, he finds himself unable to continue in this
position. Therefore, another Council member should be appointed to fill the unexpired term
ending 12/31/94. :-

SUBJECT: Appointment to the Southwest Metro Transit Commission (SMTC)
As of January 1, 1993, the two Commission positions representing Chanhassen will be
vacant.
The Joint Powers Agreement requires that the first position be filled by a City Council
member (including mayor). The term of -the position is three years, from January 1,
1993 to December 31, 1995. Council member Ursula Dimler holds this position which
expires 12/31/92.
The second position is a re- appointment to a three -year term (January 1, 1992 -
December 31, 1994) and must be filled by a resident of Chanhassen, however, SMTC
strongly encourages the selection of an elected official. Council member Richard Wing
currently holds the position, completing the term of Mike Mason, until December 31,
1994.
Commission members represent the interests of their City as they work together to
achieve Southwest Metro Transit's goals and objectives. They are responsible for
attending Commission meetings which are scheduled for the evening of the fourth
Thursday of each month at Eden Prairie, Chaska, or Chanhassen City Hall.
We hope that appointments to these positions can be made in time for orientation before
the January 28, 1993 meeting. •
We are pleased to have this opportunity to assist the City Council in its selection
process.
