1 SUBJ: Additional Funds for Hazardous Materials Containment Equipment
1 Last year, the SWMP Task Force recommended authorization of spending $ 1,000 for the
Chanhassen Firemen to acquire sorbent boom pads, diking material, and other accessories. The
' equipment was intended to facilitate our Fire Department's ability to respond to spills of
hazardous materials. The goal of course is to get these materials cleaned up before they are
introduced into our surface water. Thus far, the materials have been used in one incident
1 involving a gasoline spill. The Fire Department is requesting an additional $1,000 for minor
replacement of materials used and to further increase stockpiled materials which would be
employed in the event of a more significant problem occurring.
' STAFF RECOMMENDATION
1 Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the expenditure of $1,000 in Surface Water
Management Program funds for the acquisition of funds for containment equipment for the
Chanhassen Fire Department.

SUBJ: Funds for Containment Equipment ,
During the Spring and Summer of 1992, the Chanhassen Fire Department purchased an

assortment of sorbent boom pads, diking material and other accessories. The funds that we
obtained were from the "Surface Water Management Task Force" in the amount of
$1,000.00.
So far, we only had one incident involving a gasoline spill in which material was used. '
At this time, I am requesting additional funds for minor replacement of materials used, and
further increasing our stockpiled material. A figure of $1,000.00 would greatly increase our
inhouse supplies.
Please let me know if the additional funding is acceptable. If you have any questions, please 1
advise.
