A majority vote is required for approval. Background Annually, the City considers replacement of vehicles and equipment that have reached their average life expectancy and are showing signs of needing major maintenance. The Chanhassen Fire Department Command Staff are issued command vehicles to respond directly to emergencies to manage the incidents, request and allocate the necessary resources, and to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness and safety of the responders. The department currently employs four command vehicles. This vehicle would replace the current CV3, a 1988 Chevrolet one -ton pick -up. The following criteria were used in selecting a vehicle: • Primary use is command staff response to emergencies. A typical incident will have 2 people in the front seats with the occasional need to have a 3 -4 person crew capability when the vehicle is being used as a stationary command post. • Room for PPE, SCBA, fire extinguisher, small ladder, medical /02 /AED, on -deck Kit, radios, laptop /IPAD, ICS kit • Large windshield to provide unobstructed view of the incident • Fuel efficiency • Ability to engage 4- wheel, all- weather, all- terrain as needed • Option to tow FD trailers (not a primary use) Chanhassen is a Community for Life - Providing for Today and Planning for Tomorrow Mr. Todd Gerhardt February 11, 2013 Page 2 Staff also researched the Ford Interceptor (Explorer) and a crew cab pick- up for this purchase.
