The existing Dell Road from TH 5 north to the uattro Drive /Evener Way intersection is
approximately 1600 feet of a two -lane street With one -way northbound only traffic from TH
r .
5 to West 77th Street, lying within the east limits o * City of Chanhassen. This road was
constructed in the early 1980's by the City of Chanhassen to serve the easterly business park.
The roadway segment is currently accessed by a right -in only off of the westbound lane of
TH 5; however, two -way traffic is allowed between West 77th Street and the Quattro
I Drive /Evener Way intersection.
1 The City of Eden Prairie is proposing to build an additional two lanes along their westerly
corporate limits for northbound traffic from the newly constructed intersection at TH 5 and
extending north to Quattro Drive /Evener Way. The existing two -lane roadway within
1 . Chanhassen would then be converted to facilitate southbound traffic. The overall project
for Dell Road north of TH 5 will include the construction of approximately 1000 feet of a
two -lane undivided urban section from the Quattro Drive /Evener Way intersection north
I to Twilight Trail in Eden Prairie. Once completed, this project will function as a
north /south urban collector street between TH 5 and TH 101 /Hennepin County 62 and
provide adequate local access for private and commercial developments which already exist
I or are in the construction stages in the immediate service area.
The City of Eden Prairie is proposing to construct a grade separated crossing at the Twin
1 City Western Railroad north of the Quattro Drive /Evener Way intersection. Dell Road is
proposed to cross beneath the railroad track necessitating the construction of a bridge. This
I will lower the elevation of Dell Road at the Quattro Drive /Evener Way intersection by
approximately 3 feet and will require extensive boulevard slope grading along the westerly
right -of -way north of Quattro Drive bordering Lot 7, Park One Third Addition. In addition,

approximately 600 feet of the existing roadway north of West 77th Street to Quattro Drive
and Quattro Drive from Dell Road to approximately 300 feet west will need to be
reconstructed due to road elevation changes. Existing utility infrastructures such as manhole
' castings and gate valves will need to be adjusted accordingly. There will also be some minor
storm sewer reconstruction and watermain lowering.
t It is important to note that completion of this project, specifically as it relates to the
segment from TH 5 north to Quattro Drive, is imperative before the TH 101 North Leg
project can begin construction. The improved Dell Road will serve as the only access to and
' from the business park during the TH 101 North Leg project. Eden Prairie is aware of the
coordination issue and intends to begin construction on the Dell Road project as soon as
possible.
t A copy of the project plans and specifications is available in my office for review. The plans
have passed the state aid review process. It is therefore recommended that the project plans
1 and specifications for Dell Road north of TH 5 (Eden Prairie Cooperative Project), Project
No. 90 -8, be approved.
