SUBJ: Change Order, TH 101 South of Highway 5

All street projects, during the past ten year period, have included sidewalks or intersecting trails
' where such led to or from the downtown, major parks, etc. Examples include the downtown,
Kerber Boulevard, trails within the Elementary School site, Lake Drive from Market Boulevard
to Lake Susan Park, etc. Highway 101 construction was no different in that it provided the
opportunity to create the link back to the downtown as well as to Lake Susan Park and
Chanhassen Estates Park. Unfortunately, we were unsure as to whether all of the easements
could be obtained before starting the road project. Accordingly, staff asked BRW to move ahead
' with the south Highway 101 construction, and to proceed with the trail construction as a change
order. Attached please find the change order which accomplishes the original intent of the
project, i.e. the construction of a sidewalk adjacent to Highway 101, including the linking trails
1 lying between Lake Susan and Chanhassen Estates Park.
Similar to the project's mentioned earlier in this memorandum, the sidewalk/trail construction
' proposed is a valid tax increment expenditure and is proposed as a part of the bondable costs
associated with the TH 101 South Leg Construction Project as originally proposed, and both the
roadway and sidewalks are included in the anticipated 1992 tax increment bonds.

1 The additions, revisions and corrections contained herein shall be made to the contract
documents for the project and shall become a part of the Scope of Work.
I Description of Changes:
I A. City staff has directed that bituminous trail construction work be added to the scope of
the project. The proposed trail work includes the construction of approximately 4,450
linear feet of 8- foot -wide bituminous trail in the project area. The trail would begin at
I an existing pathway along the north shore of Lake Susan and would extend east,
crossing TH 101 and terminating at Dakota Lane and Rice Marsh Lake Park. A trail
extension would also be constructed along the west side of Market Boulevard from the
I TH 101 intersection to the Rosemount entrance driveway. A drawing detailing the
proposed trail construction is attached to this Contract Amendment.
1 The proposed trail construction work has resulted in the creation of a new bid schedule
and pay items for the performance of the work. Contract unit prices for new pay items
I have been obtained from the Contractor and reviewed and approved by the Engineer
and City staff. The new bid schedule is as follows:
