1 SUBJ: Award of Bids for 1992 Street Repair /Sealcoat Program
Project No. 92 -8
On Thursday, June 11, 1992, bids were received a eeeived and opened for the 1992 Street
I Repair /Sealcoat Program, Project No. 92 -8. Two bids were received. The low bidder was
Allied Blacktop, Inc. at $64,860.92. The engineer's estimate for this year's program was
$95,000. Apparently the economy and the bidding climate are major contributing factors
I into this year's favorable bids received. This year's bid items averaged 20% to 25% lower
than the comparable unit prices received two years ago in 1990.
I The 1992 approved city budget allocated $90,000 for the street repair /sealcoating program.
It is my recommendation that, with these excellent bid prices, this year's scheduled program
be expanded to produce a program somewhat close to that which was budgeted. The
I pavement management program will again be reviewed to select the next priority list of
streets qualifying for sealcoat operations. This is an excellent opportunity for the City to
maximize its maintenance and repair dollars in an attempt to get ahead of the aging life
1 cycle of our City streets.
Allied Blacktop, Inc. has performed satisfactorily on previous street repair /sealcoating
1 programs in the City. It is therefore recommended that the 1992 Street Repair /Sealcoat
Program, Project No. 92 -8, be awarded to Allied Blacktop, Inc. at a bid price of $64,860.92.
