' MEMORANDUM
TO: Don Ashworth, City Manager
Scott Harr, Public Safety Director
DATE: January 18, 1991 _ -11 !
SUBJ: An Ordinance Amending Chapter 9, Article 3 of the
Chanhassen City Code Concerning the Fire Code
1 The purpose of this memo is to recommend that an ordinance
amending Chapter 9, Article 3 of our City Code concerning the
Fire Code be adopted.
1 BACKGROUND
1 The City of Chanhassen, along with most cities in the State of
Minnesota, have been utilizing the 1982 Uniform Fire Code. The
most recent revision is the 1988 Fire Code.
1 ANALYSIS
1 Because the 1988 actual fire code is a compilation of efforts
worked on throughout the country since 1982, the majority of
cities within Minnesota are adopting the 1988 code. Minor addi-
tions are s forth in the attached draft, which represents an
agreement by Fire Chief Dale Gregory, Fire Marshal Mark Litffin,
Building Official Steve Kirchman and myself. This final draft
has been reviewed and approved by City Attorney Roger Knutson.
1
RECOMMENDATION
It is the recommendation of staff that this ordinance be passed
in order to update our fire prevention program.
