I SUBJ: Resolution Supporting the Southwest Corridor Transportation Coalition's
Efforts to Continue to Obtain Federal Funding for the New U.S. Highway
212 Project.
I As you are aware, the Southwest Corridor Transportation Coalition is an organi-
zation of local governments and businesses working together to improve the high-
ways in Southwestern Minnesota. The Coalition has focused the majority of its
I efforts on improving Trunk Highway 5 and Trunk Highway 212. In the past, the
Coalition has worked closely with the Department of Tranportation to acquire
funding for preliminary studies on various segments of these two highway
projects.
ILast year the Coalition applied for a $10 million federal grant to fund the
design for the segment of Highway 212 between CSAH 4 in Eden Prairie to Lyman
I Boulevard in Chanhassen. With the assis_tance of the Minnesota Congressional
Delegation, $1.7 million was appropriated for this segment of the project. This
year the Coalition has submitted an application for an additional $2 million for
II the design of the segment of Highway 212 between Lyman Boulevard in Chanhassen
and Trunk Highway 41 in Chaska.
To support this effort the Coalition is requesting that all of its City, County
II and Township members draft resolutions or letters of support for this new
funding request. I have attached a draft resolution to accomplish this task. I
would recommend that the City Council at their regular meeting on May 20, 1991
I pass a resolution supporting the Southwest Corridor Transportation Coalition
request for a $2 million Federal grant for the design of the segment Highway 212
between Lyman Boulevard in Chanhassen and Trunk Highway 41 in Chaska.
