II SUBJ: Proclamation to Adopt the Month of May as "Older
Americans Month"
IOn March 15, 1991, the Senior Citizens Commission recommended that
the City Council adopt a proclamation that would enable Chanhassen
I to join many communities around the nation who have adopted the
month of May as "Older Americans Month".
RECOMMENDATION
IStaff recommends that the City Council adopt a resolution
proclaiming the month of May as "Older Americans Month".

A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF MAY AS
"OLDER AMERICANS MONTH"
WHEREAS, Older citizens have utilized their lifetime 1
observations and experiences to shape the course of our society;
and
WHEREAS, Older Minnesotans are a valuable resource to
themselves, and their communities, contributing over 70 million
hours of volunteer service every year; and 1
WHEREAS, Older citizens have experienced more explosive social
change in their lifetimes than any preceding generation; and ,
WHEREAS, these older Minnesotans are the "architects of
society", with their contributions as innovative and varied as the
institutions and individuals themselves.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Donald J. Chmiel, Mayor of the City of
Chanhassen, do hereby proclaim the month of May, 1991 to be I
OLDER AMERICANS MONTH
and call upon all citizens of Chanhassen to recognize the '
importance of strengthening bonds between all ages to create a
bright vision for the future.
