DATE: April 1, 1991 SUBJ: Approve Plans and Specifications for Construction of Well .1 No. 6 and Related Watermains and Appurtenances; Authorize Advertising for Bids, Project No. 91-1 1 On December 10 , 1990 the City Council authorized the preparation of plans and specifications for the construction of Well and Pumphouse No. 6 with the interest in having this well brought Ion-line in the summer of 1991 . At that meeting there were some questions relating to the quality of water that would be pumped from a drift well at this location . The concerns primarily I related to what the iron and manganese content of the water would be. To acquire the needed information to adequately address this issue, tests were taken for the iron and manganese content of the I water from the adjacent Well No. 5, also a drift aquifer. It was found that approximately 0.20 mg/L of manganese concentration and 0 .02 mg/L of iron were present. By State and Federal standards these concentrations are considered acceptable from both a health I and aesthetic standpoint . The iron content is identical to that of our deep wells . The manganese is higher than our deep wells; however, its presence is typically not noticed, nor is it Iharmful. Bruce A. Liesch Associates, Inc. has prepared plans and specifications for the construction of the new Well and Pumphouse 1 No. 6. City staff review from the Engineering, Building, Fire and Utility Departments has recommended some minor revisions to the preliminary plan which have been incoporated in this final I plan and specification submittal. The mechanical aspect of the system is being designed to afford the application of chemical dosing should the manganese or iron levels reach undesireable 1 levels . Given the current time schedule a late July construction completion is forecasted. I 1 Don Ashworth, City Manager April 1, 1991 Page 2 ' A copy of the plans are included in the packets . The specifications are also available for review upon request. It is therefore recommended that the plans and specifications prepared ' by Bruce A. Liesch Associates, Inc . be approved for the construction of Well and Pumphouse No. 6 and that authorization be given to advertise for bids . lap ' Attachment: 1. Plans and Specifications . 2 .
