D-1 Dale Gregory Recognitioneltd D -1
It is my pleasure to invite Dale Gregory, retiring Park Superintendent and his
family to join me at the front of the City Council Chambers.
Dale, on behalf of the entire City Council, your coworkers and the citizens of
Chanhassen, it is my distinct honor and a pleasure to present you with a Chanhassen
Maple Leaf Award. This award and our presentation this evening are in recognition of 42
years of outstanding service and dedication to this community. It is with a great deal of
pride that we say thanks for all you did managing the administration of the city's parks
maintenance division, including: supervising parks maintenance staff, directing the
construction and maintenance of recreational areas, facilities and equipment; planning
and coordinating parks maintenance projects and work flow; establishing division
priorities; and maintenance of the downtown area.
Since Dale was the City's first park employee, it can be said, with accuracy, that he
was involved in the construction and development of all city parks, trails and recreational
improvements completed to date. Furthermore, Dale was actively involved in or directly
in charge of the day -to -day maintenance of these facilities and improvements upon their
completion. Dale can attest to the fact that this list has grown fairly long over his 42
years with the City. It should be known that throughout his career working for the City —
or as Dale would say, "the Village," that he always raised his hand to take on additional
tasks and duties that needed to be completed for the betterment of the town. He would
complete these extra tasks without additional compensation and without seeking
recognition — Dale is just the kind of employee that believes that working hard and
helping out along the way is all a part of a day's work.
Dale has loved everything about his job and is especially proud of all that
was accomplished during his tenure with the city. Ask Dale what kept him coming
back to work for 42 years and he will reply that the joys of working for the
betterment of the community and having something new to do everyday made his
job easy. In retirement, Dale has plans for more fishing, traveling, and volunteer
work near his retirement home on Woman Lake in northern Minnesota. It is with a
great deal of pride and admiration that the City of Chanhassen community says
thank you and congratulates Dale Gregory on his retirement!
