Gregg Geske- Fire Chief Greg Hayes- 1st Assistant Chief Randy Wahl- ?d Assistant Chief Mark Littfin- Fire Marshal January 16, 2004 Monthly City Council update Fire Department Overview: Staffing is at 38 firefighters as of January 8, 2004, allocation is 45 PTE's. We finished 2003 with 828 calls - up 146 from 682 in 2002. Fire Training: Currently, the fire department has been concentrating on medical training. This training includes defibrillator, EKG, IV, ambulance familiarity, and diabetic response. Training has also been done recently for ice rescue. This training is the basics of emergency first responder and firefighter response in order to keep up to date with operational tactics. Emergency Management: Fire Inspections: Fire Marshal update: Active inspections - not much has changed since last report. Eckankar Spiritual Center is progressing well - sprinkler and fire alarm tests have yet to be scheduled. C,.~,rrent apartment buildings are Powers Ridge II, and Presbyterian Homes. Children of Tomorrow Day Care did a small add on. Classic Gymnastics located at Water Toxver Place should be getting their CO next week. There are approximately six to ten minor remodeling projects going on with commercial buildings around the city. The two buildings in the Steiner Development are nearing completion also. Bar/restaurant inspections should begin at the end of January. The only fire so far this winter season has been a dumpster fire at Goodyear which did minor damage to the building where the dumpster was stored. Todd Gerhardt January 16, 2004 Page 2 Fire Education Activities: Fire ed activities are a little slow this time of year The only event currently planned is the city fishing contest. Our involvement is somewhat limited. We're there to be visible and provide first assistance if it were to be needed. Since it is a city-sponsored program, it provides a good PR opportunity to visit and mingle with the public. Budget:
