SUBJ: Award of Bids, Public Works Auxiliary Storage Building - Phase II
Project No. 89-23B
II As authorized Council on Febr 26, 1 90 staff advertised for bids for
by nary 9 o
Phase II of the Public Works Auxiliary Storage Building construction. Phase I
I
of the project, which involves the foundation construction, was recently
completed by Wachholz Construction. Phase II of the project deals with the
actual building construction. As will be recalled, the building construction
IIcost estimates for the facility have ranged from $110,000 to $141,000.
The Phase I foundation bid came in quite favorably at $13,055. Similarly, we
1 have seen overwhelming response to this current solicitation for bids. The
attached bid tabulation prepared by DDS Corporation summarizes the 15 bids
received. The average bid was $91,406. The law bid of $76,900 was provided by
W. H. Cates Construction, Inc., Hamel, Minnesota and is less than anticipated.
1 The enclosed information summarizes the bid tabulation and provides reference
information on the low bidder. W. H. Cates appears to be an experienced
contractor with good references. This project should be well within their
II capability.
The total building cost with this award can be summarized as follags:
I " Phase I - Foundation $ 13,055
" Phase II - Building 76,900
1 Subtotal Construction $89,955
1 ° Contingencies (5%) $ 4,500
" Engineering, Testing

and Surveying 15,000
Subtotal $19,500
1 TOTAL BUILDING COST $109,455
