CHANHASSEN
MEMORANDUM
TO: Scott Botcher, City Manager
FROM: Anita L. Benson, City Engineer
DATE: November 29, 1999
SUB J: Approve Change Order No. 1 to Infiltration/Inflow Drainage
Improvement Project No. 98-2
The above-referenced project constructed drainage improvements in the Near
Mountain, Saddlebrook, Chanhassen Hills and Chaparral neighborhoods. This
project is funded through the Surface Water Management Program with a total
budget amount of $175,000. The construction contract was awarded to
Wickenhauser Excavating, Inc. for the low bid amount of $173,846.50.
During the construction phase of this project significant conflict with existing
utilities, i.e. telephone, natural gas, cable TV occurre& Rather than require
relocation of these utilities which would have resulted in a substantial delay to the
project, the trench width was revised fi'om 24 inches to 18 inches. This reduction
in trench width resulted in a unit price reduction for the pipe installation. At the
direction of the engineer, the contractor installed an additional quantity of 585 LF
of drainage pipe to address drainage problems identified during construction. The
overall effect to the contract due to the above changes is an increase of $3,708.05.
The final contract amount upon approval of this change order will be
$177,554.05. The actual construction dollar value completed is $171,282.74. The
City of Shorewood will be reimbursing Chanhassen $1,420 for work completed
within their jurisdictional authority.
I recommend approval of Change Order No, 1 for the Infiltration/Inflow Drainage
hnprovement Project No. 98-2.
