As of May 13th, we are at 226 calls for the year, down 74 from 300 for the same time in 2003. Since our last report we have had no structure fires and have responded four times with mutual aid to other departments. Fire Training: The Fire Department will be conducting roll-in drills and aerial truck operations this month as well as dive training. The dive team reviewed protocols and conducted equipment maintenance. Several firefighters attended State Fire School in Bloomington for training in basic pump operations, fire investigation and building construction. We will also be having rapid intervention team training this month provided through a 2002 Department of Justice State Training Grant in the amount of $69,000.00 to be used by Carver County area departments. The rookies have all passed the state certification for Firefighter I and are presently attending Firefighter II class and will be taking the state exam for this certification in the upcoming weeks. Fire Inspections: Fire inspections for May have been going smoothly. Powers Ridge Apartments are moving ahead well and the fire sprinkler systems have been tested and approved. Even though the buildings are still under construction, the fire department could use the systems if able to gain access to the control valves. Presbyterian Homes is also moving smoothly. Rough-in Todd Gerhardt May 17, 2004 Page 2 inspections are almost done on the first building. ABC annex building is nearing completion. All that remains is the testing of the smoke evacuation system. Final inspections were given to Huntington Learning, Tuesday Morning, Subway and Kids Klip. Other projects at various stages are Holiday Inn Express, Century Plaza, Community Bank, and the Eck Spiritual Center. Ed Coppersmith has been accompanying me on all inspections and is learning very quickly. No fires to report this past month.
