Approve Construction Contract for 2004 Residential Street
Improvements Project No. 04-01
REQUEST (Simple Majority Vote Required)
Staff requests the City Council consider approving a construction contract with
Northdale Construction Company, Inc. in the amount of $738,438.73 and adopt a
resolution for accepting bids.
BACKGROUND
This project will reconstruct streets in an area just north of downtown. Specifically,
the project will include the removal and replacement of the pavement and watermain
on Del Rio Drive, Santa Fe Trail, and Santa Fe Circle East and West. In addition, the
project will include, approximately, 30 spot repairs to the sanitary sewer in the Kiowa
neighborhood. The project area is shown below:

On April 12, 2004, the City Council approved plans and specifications and authorized
the advertisement of bids on the project.
DISCUSSION
Bids for the project were opened and read aloud on Thursday, May 13, 2004 at 10:00
a.m. Five bids were submitted. The bids were tabulated, checked for errors and are
shown below. The bid tabulation is available in the Engineering Department for
review.

The low bid from Northdale Construction Company, Inc., represents a 4.2% decrease
from the engineer's estimate and the budgeted amount. Northdale Construction
Company, Inc. has worked for the City of Chanhassen in the past. Their work and
scheduling has been acceptable.

the amount of $738,438.73."

WHEREAS, pursuant to an advertisement for bids for the improvement of Del Rio Drive
from Laredo Drive to Santa Fe Trail, Santa Fe Trail fi'om Del Rio Drive to Great Plains Boulevard,
Santa Fe Circle East from Santa Fe Trail to Street End, and Santa Fe Circle West from Santa Fe
Trail to Street End, bids were received, opened and tabulated according to law, and the following
bids were received complying with the advertisement:

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Chanhassen,
Minnesota:
The mayor and clerk are hereby authorized and directed to enter into a contract with
Northdale Construction Company in the name of the city of Chanhassen for the
improvement of the 2004 Residential Street Improvements according to the plans and
specifications therefore approved by the City Council and on file in the office of the City
Clerk.
The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to return forthwith to all bidders the
deposits made with their bids, except that the deposits of the successful bidder and the next
lowest bidder shall be retained until a contract has been signed.
Passed and adopted by the Chanhassen City Council this 14th day of June, 2004.
