See a sample in the attachment below. The permit process serves as a method to manage solicitation within the city and aids in minimizing crime risks by requiring criminal background checks be conducted on each applicant. The city permit is not an endorsement of the solicitor's product. The following are exempt from obtaining a city permit: 1. Children age eighteen or younger soliciting for school and youth sponsored programs. 2. Religious, charitable or non-profit organizations that meet at least one of the following criteria: *The organization has at least 25 rnembers that are Chanhassen residents; or, *The organization's headquarters or business office is located in Chanhassen; or, *The organization owns real property in Chanhassen; or, *Regular meetings are held in Chanhassen for at least two (2) years. Call 9-1-1 if'you observe the following solicitor violations: * A solicitor who falls under the permit requirements does not display a photo ID badge. * A solicitor is in violation of the "Peddlers and Solicitors Prohibited" sign posted. The sign/placard size must be at least three and three-quarters (3 3/4) inches long and three and three-quarters (3 3/4) inches wide. Crime Prevention Reminder: I am happy to report that crime activity is low right now, but during the summer months, theft from vehicles and burglary from unsecured garages will typically increase. So please remember to: *Close and lock your garage doors when not in use. The first garage burglary of the year was recently reported on Penamint Lane (just north of city hall), where golf clubs were stolen. *Keep vehicles locked and remove all items. Thieves will break into any vehicle they believe contains something valuable. Whether valuable or not, any item left in view will increase the risk of having your vehicle targeted by thieves. Let me know if you would like to receive "Neighborhood Watch Notice" flyers for distribution (indicate how many).
