2005 MUSA - Arterial & Collector Roadway Funding Options
Project No. 04-05
DISCUSSION
Staff has been reviewing options to fund future collector roadway projects. These
projects include the upgrade of county roadways such as Lyman Boulevard and
Pioneer Trail. As development continues in areas south of Trunk Highway 5 and
as the region continues to grow, these roadway segments will require expansion
and urbanizing. The problem is to figure out creative mechanisms to fund these
future projects. Based on a historic agreement between the Cities of Chanhassen
and Chaska and Carver County, the City could potentially pay for 83% of the
roadway improvements.
Staff will be presenting several options and issues to help fund these future
projects.
Funding options include:
· Charging a fee to the developers to go towards future collector roadway
projects.
· Only assessing the fi'ont footage along the collector roadway projects.
· The City assessing all properties in the area for future roadway projects.
Staff will be presenting the pros and cons to each option at the work session.
