Monthly City Council update
Fire Department Overview:
Staffing is at 37 firefighters as of August 13, 2004, allocation is 45 PTE's.
As of August 7 we are at 356 calls for the year, down 160 from 516 at the same time in 2003.
We did not have to respond to any structure fires since the last report. We provided mutual aid
to Eden Prairie for an apartment fire. The truck committee has been busy working on
specifications for our replacement pumper in 2006.
Fire Training:
The fire department training for the last month included rescue skills training, which involved
learning new backboarding protocols, refresher training covering obstetrics procedures
conducted by Dr. Sepprel of Ridgeview Hospital, dive training and hazmat training as well as
driver training and pump training.
Fire Inspections:
Inspections continue to go well. Powers Ridge Condos, Holiday Inn and Eck Spiritual Center as
well as the first building of Presbyterian Homes should be completed this month. The
Community Bank and the C-Store Gas Station and strip mall at Century Boulevard and Highway
5 are well on the way to having exterior walls completed. Fillys is still in the demo phase and
land is being cleared and graded for the new Park Nicollet site. Plans have been reviewed for
several new businesses including Lifetime Fitness and Chanhassen Elementary School additions.
