Staffing is at 37 firefighters as of September 16, 2004, allocation is 45 PTE' s.
As of September 12, we are at 404 calls for the year, down 207 from 611 at the same time in
2003. Since our last report we have had no structure fires. We responded mutual aid to both
Excelsior and Eden Prairie for structure fires. Planning is starting for our Open House in
October. The truck committee continues to work with Original Equipment Manufacturer dealers
on specifications for the replacement of our pumper in 2006.
Fire Training:
Last month the Fire Department conducted several training classes in areas of engineer
training/pump operations, medical rescue training, Hazardous Material team training and Dive
Team training. Also, several auto extrication scenarios were conducted building on the previous
month's classes. Weare also in the process of certifying several new divers to become members
of the Dive Team.

The Holiday Inn received their CO in mid August. The project went very well. Presbyterian
Homes is moving ahead on schedule and looking at moving residents in around October 15. Fire

Street Station, Lifetime Fitness, Kroiss Development and Park Nicollet clinic.
Fire Education Activities:
Fire Prevention Week is October 3 - October 9,2004. Fire prevention activities will be
presented to all four elementary schools, with K thru 5th grade participating. We have 27
firefighters who have volunteered their time to assist with teaching the kids fire prevention.
Most have taken vacation time or have re-scheduled their personal time to work with the kids.
When done we will have had over 2000 kids either come through our doors, or visited at their
schools. The Fire Department Open House is scheduled for Sunday October 10th ftom 1-4 p.m.
Final preparations are being made as we will be expecting over 1000 people. Please join us if
possible.
