MEMORANDUM
TO:
Todd Gerhardt, City Manager
FROM:
Justin Miller, Assistant City Managercr"",
ð~
DATE:
February 16,2005
RE:
Private Kennel Permit - 8561 Flamingo Drive
Lindy and Denise Hollingsworth
BACKGROUND
Lindy and Denise Hollingsworth have applied for a private kennel permit for their
three pug dogs and one cat of mixed breeds. According to Chanhassen city code
section 5-16, a private kennel is defined as "more than two dogs; or a combination
of four dogs or cats over six months in age are kept or harbored, provided such
animals are owned by the owner or lessee of the premises on which they are kept
or harbored."
According to Chanhassen city code section 5-18, a license is required for a private
kennel. If the site inspection meets the animal control officer's satisfaction, and
no negative comments are received by the City, then the license is issued. The
application for this license was posted in the January 27th edition of the
Chanhassen Villager. The public has ten days from the publication of the notice
to submit comments. Staff received one written comment (see attached letter), so
this matter automatically goes to the City Council for their consideration. As you
can see from the letter, there are no specific concerns stated about the application,
and the letter was sent anonymously.
Staff has inspected the house where the animals are to be kept and found it to be
in satisfactory condition.
RECOMMENDA TION (requires maioritv vote of the Council)
Staff recommends the City Council approve the application for a private kennel
permit at 8561 Flamingo Drive.
The City of Chanhassen · A growing community with clean lakes, quality schools, a charming downtown, thriving businesses, winding trails, and beautiful parks. A great place to live, work, and play

Re: Hollingsworth kennel permit
RECEIVED
F£B 2 3 2005
CITY OF CHANHASSEN
After reading the council's previous minutes and upcoming
agenda we respectfully submit a group opposition to the
kennel permit requested by Lindy &Denise Hollingsworth.
Although they currently have 3 dogs and 1 cat, they have in
the recent past had many more animals living in their
house. We fear they will increase the number of animals
again. We find even the current number of animals to be
too much for a residential area. Regardless if the animals
are kept as "indoor pets", they do still live within close
proximity to us all and we find opposition in allowing them
to renew their request.
Due to the fact that we are neighbors to this family, we
respectfully decline to sign this opposition as we do not
want them to know that the group involved encompasses so
many families on Flamingo Drive. Additionally, this
family does not have a good rapport with the majority of
families in our area.
Please bear this request in your final decision. Just because
something isn't signed doesn't mean it has no merit.
Thank you.
