Monthly City Council update
Fire Department Overview:
Staffing is at 42 active firefighters as of February 18,2005; allocation is 45 PTEs
As of February 13, we are at 69 calls for the year, down 26 from 95 at the same time in 2004.
Since our last report we have not had any structure fires and we responded to Eden Prairie one
time for mutual aid. The Fire Board participated in the Public Safety Open House. The Fire
Board is also in the process of selecting company officers, revising Fire Department Standard
Operating Guidelines and reviewing our physical agility test.
Fire Training:
During the month of January the Fire Department conducted a wide variety of training which
included the required OSHA "Right to Know" refresher class, rescue/medical training and
company level training which included the operation of structural firefighting equipment.
Fire Marshal:
No major incidents to report on.
Fire Inspections:
Summerwoods is finishing up their acceptance tests on the fire protection systems. Occupancy is
expected in the next few weeks. Other projects at various stages of construction and inspection
are; the Stone Creek Town Offices, Life Time Fitness, Edina Reality Building, CVS Pharmacy,

Goddard School, Market Street Station, Park Nicollet Medical Clinic, Stone Creek Office
Building and the Highlands at Bluff Creek Town Homes. In the next week we will be
scheduling inspections at restaurants and hotels. Chanhassen Elementary School has almost
finished retrofitting a fire sprinkler system. Tests should be done in the next few days.
Fire Prevention:
We've had a couple of cub scout tours/safety classes given by Ed Coppersmith at the fire station,
and there are two birthday tours scheduled for the end of February.
