Updates ITom City Hall--September 30, 1998
~
Public Safety Department
· Siren installations are continuing
with sirens up at Bandimere Park;
the lift station by Prince's on Galpin;
and the park in Carver Beach. Two
left to go up this year.
· Regarding sirens, we did have to
make an immediate location change
for the Carver Beach site, which
was initially set to go in at the lift
station next to Lotus Lake. How-
ever, when the installer arrived to set
the pole (where the engineer and
vendor recommended), he said the
water table would not permit it (pole
goes 9 ft. down into ground).
Thanks to the rapid cooperative help
of Todd Hoffman and Don
Ashworth, we selected a site at the
northwest corner of the park at Nez
Perce and Carver Beach Road,
which is actually a much superior
site topographically. And while I
had a letter hand delivered to the
neighborhood which was met with
positive responses, one neighbor did
not like this site.
· The city was awarded the maxi-
mum amount for snowmobile
enforcement for cities. This is only
$1,000, but every little bit helps.
Public WorkslEngineering
· Fall hydrant flushing begins on
October I. All city-wide flushing
will be done between the hours of
II :00 p.m. and 5 :00 a.m. through
the month of October. Crews will
begin in the northwest comer and
move eastward then south of
T.H.5.
Park & Recreation Department
· Powers Blvd. and Galpin Blvd.
trails are underway. Progress has
been good over the past few
weeks. Pending the City Council's
approval of the Edwards purchase
agreement, I will order commence-
ment of the Bluff Creek trail no later
than Oct. 20th. Beyond this date
weather conditions are too unpre-
dictable.
· Westwood Church had inquired
with Jerry Ruegerner regarding a
special event permit for Lake Ann
Park. The event was to include
horse rides and a bonfire. The
event never came off. In the event
that it had, Westwood would have
paid normal reservation rates for
the pavilion.
· We have notified Ingram Excavat-
ing, the contractor for City Center
and Bandirnere Parks, that liqui-
dated damages will be sought for
failure to complete these projects
by the November I completion
date.
Planning Department
· Staff met at a BR & E (Business
Retention & Expansion) breakfast
on Sept. 30 held at the Chanhassen
Recreation Center to give a status
report on the BR & E program. The
BR & E program encourages
private/public partnerships in four
priority areas: Business/School
Collaborations, Housing, Transporta-
tion, and Qualified Employees. One
outcome of the meeting is that
participants were encouraged to
discuss issues and provide potential
solutions to the problems. A
quarterly newsletter is being
planned.
. Nancy Mancino, Don Ashworth,
Kate Aanenson, and Dave
Pokorney (Chaska's City Admin-
istrator) met on Wednesday to
discuss ongoing noise issues at
Lewis Engineering in Chaska
(adjacent to Trotter's Ridge). A
few ideas were discussed. Staff
will review the possibility of a
noise study. Staff is getting an
estimate ITom the same firm that
did the Post Office study. Esti-
mates will be brought to council.
