Scott Botcher
Chanhassen City Manager
690 City Center Drive
Chanhassen, MN 55317
Dear Mr. Botcher:
As the city of Chanhassen continues to grow and develop, families with children,
choose Chanhassen as a great community to live. It is an area that takes pride in
positive values, integrity, and a sense of community. With this trend of increased
growth, the schools gain more children in the elementary schools. Where do these
children go when they finish the elementary level of school?? They are bussed out of
the community in which they live and enter into the Chaska Middle Schools and High
Schools.
I feel that the city of Chanhassen should consider the possibility of building their own
middle school and high school. The number of children that make up our elementary
schools continues to increase. The sense of pride and community that is taught them
from early on in their education changes because they are separated and placed in two
(and soon three) middle schools and eventually into an oversized high school. We are
reaching a point where all of District 112 is growing so quickly that we need to break
growth areas down into manageable blocks for the sake of the children.
With some of the remaining open land, could there be a task force to look into the
benefits of building a middle school and high school for Chanhassen? Would not
additional schools at that level continue to add to the sense of community that
Chanhassen enforces at every opportunity?
The middle and upper grade buildings that are currently holding the children of District
112 are steadily reaching their capacities. Other options need to be considered as the
city of Chanhassen expands in population. Please research the possibility of building a
middle school and high school to service the children of Chanhassen. Continue the
high quality of education the children now receive in an environment that our children
feel is still part of their home and community.
