SPECIAL CHANHASSEN CITY COUNCIL MEETING JANUARY 27, 1975
Mayor Klingelhutz called the January 27, 1975, special Council meeting
to order at 7:30 p.m. with the following members present: Councilmen
Hobbs, Neveaux, Shulstad, and Kurvers.
CITY ADMINISTRATOR: Consideration was given to five candidates:
Barry Brooks, Peter Herlofsky, Frank Huszar, Moe Pukulis, and Adolph
Tessness. After a series of three rating ballots taken by all five
members of the Council, the highest rated candidate was Barry Brooks.
Each candidate was rated by each Councilman on a rating scale of 0
to 5, 0 being the lowest.
A motion was made by Councilman Neveaux and seconded by Councilman Hobbs
to table action on the appointment of the Administrator until the first
meeting in February at which time Councilman Shulstad will give a report
on the references. The following voted in favor: Mayor Klingelhutz,
Councilmen Hobbs, Shulstad, Neveaux, and Kurvers. No negative votes.
Motion carried.
Mayor Klingelhutz and Councilman Kurvers will also check references
and report at the February 3rd meeting.
A motion was made by Councilman Shulstad and seconded by Councilman
Hobbs to offer Mr. Brooks $15,500 with an additional $1,500 a year
upon completion of his degree. The following voted in favor: Mayor
Klingelhutz, Councilmen Hobbs, Neveaux, Shulstad, and Kurvers. No
negative votes. Motion carried.
ASSESSOR: The Deputy Clerk will set up a meeting with the County
Assessor, County Commissioner, and the Council. The Council would
like all the statements pertaining to all townships and municipalities
in Carver County.
ACCOUNT CLERK AND/OR OFFICE HELP: The Deputy Clerk will prepare a
suggested job description for Council discussion.
A motion was made by Councilman Shulstad and seconded by Councilman
Neveaux to delay the hiring of an account clerk and/or office girl
until such time as the accounting machine is being utilized as designed
and then at that point identify what our office personnel requirements
are. The City Treasurer will be trained to operate the machine by
. March 1, 1975. The following voted in favor: Mayor Klingelhutz,
Councilmen Hobbs, Neveaux, Shulstad, and Kurvers. No negative votes.
Motion carried.

STATE HIGHWAY 5 IMPROVEMENT PROJECT: The public hearing for the
improvements on Highway 5 will be held February 24, 1975, at 7:00 p.m.
in the Chanhassen Elementary School.
A motion was made by Councilman Shulstad and seconded by Councilman
Hobbs to authorize the City Attorney to acquire frontage road right-

of-way easement on the south side of Highway 5 and east of Highway 101
at no cost to the city. The following voted in favor: Mayor
Klingelhutz, Councilmen Hobbs, Neveaux, Shulstad, and Kurvers. No
negative votes. Motion carried.

BICENTENNIAL COMMISSION: There will be a Bicentennial Commission
meeting Tuesday evening, January 28 at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall.
The Commission will be setting a date for the official presentation
of the Flag. The City does need a flag pole. Councilman Neveaux
suggested that it be brought to the Chamber of Commerce that they
take it upon themselves as a Bicentennial project to find the money
for a flag pole.
ASSOCIATION OF METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITIES: The City has been invited
to join the Association of Metropolitan Municipalities. Dues are
$586.00 a year. It was decided to wait and ask the new Administrator
if this is a worthwhile organization.
LEAGUE OF MINNESOTA MUNICIPALITIES: There will be a meeting Wednesday,
February 26-:" Mayor Klingethutz, Councilmen Shulstad, Hobbs, Neveaux,
and Kurvers and the new Administrator will attend.
OUTLOT 1 CHANHASSEN ESTATES: Mr. Gene Reilley is proposing a 8500
square foot building west of the Texaco Station. Part of the proposed
building is for auto parts, sales and service and the other a superette.
The City Planner will discuss this with Mr. Reilley.
PRUDENTIAL INSURANCE: Insurance on City Employees will increase
$1.88 a month. Dependents will increase $8.13 a month. The City
will negotiate the increase with Prudential.

MINNETONKA COt~1UNITY SERVICES: Mayor Klingelhutz received a letter
from Minnetonka Community Service Coordinator asking for an at-large
member of the board of directors. This will be referred to the Park
and Recreation Commission.
A motion was made by Councilman Shulstad and seconded by Councilman
Neveaux to adjourn. The following voted in favor: Mayor Klingelhutz,
Councilmen Hobbs, Shulstad, Neveaux, and Kurvers. No negative votes.
Meeting adjourned at 10:30 p.m.
