SPECIAL CHANHASSEN CITY COUNCIL MINUTES JUNE 23, 1975
Mayor Kl;i.,p.gelhutz . called the meeting to order at 8 :00 p.m. ,with·.the
following members present: Councilman Hobbs, Neveaux, Shulstad, and
Kurvers . The meeting was opened with the Pledge to·. the Flag.'

PROJECT 75-2: The cost of. the .proposed sewer· improvements ne..çe$sary
to serve Carver Beach were dis.cUssed. RusS Larson stated that if 16
properties had to be condemned in order to obtáin an easement, it
would cost $2050 of improving Frontier Trail would be approximately
$56,000. The cost over and above the cost of FrQntier Trail would
be $40,000. Councilman Neveaux suggested that before a public
meeting is called a study of how this cost would be assessed would
be in order. Some residents of Lotus Lake were present, and stateg
that alternate plan #2 would be most agreeable to residents. The
City Council was cautioned by Russ Larson, however, that represent-
ation was very limited. The council will make a decision on whether
or not· to sewer Carver Beach on July 7. If they decide to, they will
call a public hearing.
FLAGPOLE: The cost of a 40-foot aluminum pole will be approximately
$600. A motion was made by Councilman Neveaux and seconded by
Councilman Kurvers to authorize the Administrator to order a 40-foot
flagpole as suggested by Mr. Brezinsky and Mr. Coulter and to
graciously accept the donation from the Chamber of Commerce and to
earnestly solicit additional contributions from other organizations
and the general public. The following voted in favor: Mayor Klin~el
hutz , Councilman Hobbs, Kurvers, Shulstad, and Neveaux. No n~gatlve
votes. Motion carried.

GIF CLENDENNEN-REZONING: Mr. Clendennen, Director of the Office of
Delinquency Control, University of Minnesota, said that his group,
a group therapy program for malê offenders, is interested in 35 of
the 119 acres of the Seminary presently owned by the Knights of
columbus. He requested rezoning this property to P-3 or redefining
R I-A to include medical and social services. The Council felt
that this might be an asset to the Community, but were concerned
about the side stepping of the City Administrator, Planner and
Planning Commission.
A motion was made by Councilman Neveaux and seconded by Councilman
Shulstad to table action on this issue. The following voted in
favor: Mayor Klingelhutz, Councilmen Neveaux, Shulstad, Hobbs,
Kurvers. No negative votes. Motion carried.
BEER· LICENSES: A motion was made by Councilman Hobbs and seconded
by Councilman Kurvers to approve beer licenses to the Sno Snoopers
and the Chanhassen Fire Department for Frontier Days and to charge
them a fee of $1. The following voted in favor: Mayor Klingelhutz
Councilman Neveaux, Shulstad, Hobbs, Kurvers. No negative votes. '
Motion carried.

ORDINANCE 34-B: A motion was made by Councilman Shulstad and seconded
by Councilman Kurvers to approve the amendment of Ordinance 34-B,
updating the non-intoxicating malt liquor act, lowering the selling
age to 18 years of age and increasing the penalty to $300 or 90 days.
The following voted in favor: Mayor Klingelhutz ,. Councilmen Neveaux,
Shulstad, Hobbs and Kurvers. No Negative votes. Motion carried.

GREAT PLAINS BOULEVARD ASSESSMENT: Russ Larson will report on this
sometime in July.
A motion was made by Councilman Shulstad and seconded by Councilman
Hobbs to adjourn the meeting. The following voted in favor: Mayor
~ Klingelhutz, Councilmen Neveaux; Shulstad, Kurvers and Hobbs. No
'~Negati~e votes. Meeting a~journed at 10:15.
