Benson, City Engineer DATE: March 2, 2000 SUBJ: Approve Right-of-Way Acquisition Offers from MnDOT for Parcels 31lC and 219 for the TH 5IWest 78th Street Improvement Project No. 97-6 The Minnesota Department of Transportation presented offers for the above- referenced City-owned parcels for permanent right-of-way and temporary easement acquisition needed for construction of the Trunk Highway 5/West 78th Street Improvement Project. The monetary amount offered by the Minnesota Department of Transportation is based on appraisals prepared by a qualified real estate appraiser, The City of Chanhassen may have additional appraisals completed by a qualified appraiser and is eligible for reimbursement of up to $500 per appraisal. The following represents the amount oftaking for each parcel and monetary compensation offered. Parcel 311C- New right-of-way acquisition in the amount of 4,691 square feet at $0.16 per square foot for a total amount of $750. Temporary easement acquisition of 4, 786 square feet at a rate of $.094 per square foot resulting in a total compensation amount of $450. In summary, the total offered by the Minnesota Department of Transportation for Parcel 311C is $1,200. Parcel 219 - The previous offer made for this parcel was made in error. Previous agreements required the City to provide the right-of-way required for its frontage road, West 78th Street, at no cost to MnDOT. The new offer is for permãñent right-of-way acquisition in the amount of 69,696 square feet at $1.07 per square foot resulting in a total compensation amount of $75,000, The total compensation amount for permanent right-of-way acquisition on Parcel 219 is $75,000. The attached documentation has been forwarded to the City Attorney's office for review. If the City Council chooses to accept the Minnesota Department of Transportation's offers for Parcels 311C and 219, it will be necessary to approve the attached draft resolution.
