Monthly City Council update
Fire Department Overview:
Staffing is at 42 active firefighters as of March 17,2005; allocation is 45 PTEs
As of March 13, we are at 102 calls for the year, down 29 from 131 at the same time in 2004.
Fire Training:
During the past month the Fire Department conducted training for hazmat team members and
dive team members. Also, skills training was done for the upcoming EMT reftesher test.
Company captains conducted company level training involving safe operation and maintenance
of power tools in accordance with NFP A standards.
Fire Marshal:
No major incidents to report on.
Fire Inspections:
Buildings currently under construction are Life Time Fitness, Park Nicollet Medical Clinic,
Stone Creek Town Offices, Market Street Station, CVS Pharmacy and Highlands on the Bluff
Town Homes. All of these projects are at various stages of construction with no problems for the
Fire Inspection Division. There are a number of small remodel projects as well. A Certificate of
Occupancy was issued to Direct Source located at 1876 Mallory Court on Friday, March 18. We
are also reviewing plans for a number of new projects coming to the city in the near future. We

started inspecting restaurants this week with hotels/motels in the next two weeks, and strip malls
following those inspections.
Ed Coppersmith has his I-year anniversary with the city on Tuesday, March 22. His title will be
changing to Deputy Fire Marshal. Ed has done an outstanding job in his first year with the city.
I could not be more pleased with his performance.
Fire Prevention:
We have been quite involved with a number of cub scout and girl scout programs both at the
station and at some of our schools. Weare also receiving calls ftom our daycare centers for
visits by the firefighters.
