O~ FROM: DATE: March 16,2005 SUBJ: Approve Quotes for Replacement of Lift Station Pumps - PW055 REQUESTED ACTION Approve quotes for replacement of lift station pumps, BACKGROUND Annually, City staff services each of the 30 lift stations in the city system and checks far problems, The checks include pulling the pumps, checking the electrics, changing the oil, and checking the electrical panel for any problems. The City then considers replacement of equipment that can no longer be economically fixed. The annual service helps keep the equipment as reliable as possible to minimize emergency calls and potential sewer backups. This year, pumps from three lift stations are recommended for replacement. Both pumps from Lift Station #7 are recommended far replacement. The pumps were installed in 1972 (33 years old) and have reached their serviceable life, The pumps' electrical components have shown signs of overheating and water has been found in the oil reservoir. It would be more costly to fix these pumps then replace them. One pump for Lift Station #11 is recommended for replacement. The pump was installed in 1976 (29 years old) and has reached its serviceable life. The pump's electrical components have shown signs of overheating and water has been found in the oil reservoir. It would be more costly to fix the pump then replace it. One pump for Lift Station #13 is recommended for replacement. Staff received the best quotes from QFS. The KSB pumps QFS has proposed are being used at other lift stations and have been shown to be very reliable. Funding for the pump replacement has been budgeted in the 2005 CIP under SS-017, "Sanitary Lift Station Rehabilitation Program". At this time, staff recommends authorization of purchases of lift station pumps from Quality Flow Systems in the amount of $17,398.91.
