Transportation Alternative Program TAP Grant for Minnesota
River Bluffs Regional Trail
PROPOSED MOTION
"The city council approves the attached resolution supporting Carver County's
application for a Transportation Alternative Program TAP Grant for Minnesota
the River Bluffs Regional Trail."
City council approval requires a simple majority vote of the city council present.
DISCUSSION
Attached is a proposed resolution supporting Carver County's application for
Transportation Alternative Program TAP funds for improvements to the
Minnesota River Bluffs Regional Trail. Funds are being sought for the creation
of a paved multi -use trail between Bluff Creek Drive and Chaska Boulevard.
The proposed trail segment is part of the Minnesota River Bluffs LRT Regional
Trail. This trail passes through the City of Chanhassen and connects to the
Southwest Regional Trail Connection in Chaska.
The Minnesota River Bluffs LRT Regional Trail provides a peaceful, off - street
connection from the southern portion of Carver County to the rest of the region.
The proposed trail segment will help realize the high quality multi -modal trail
network proposed and supported in both local and regional planning documents.
The trail is currently open to the public as a rock surfaced trail.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council approve the attached letter of resolution
supporting a Carver County Application for Transportation Alternative Program
TAP Grant for Minnesota River Bluffs Regional Trail.

APPLICATION FOR THE MINNESOTA RIVER BLUFFS REGIONAL TRAIL
WHEREAS, The Metropolitan Council is soliciting grant applications for Federal Funding
through the Transportation Alternative Program;
WHEREAS, The Minnesota River Bluffs Regional Trail is a regional trail identified in the
Metropolitan Council 2030 Regional Parks Policy Plan;
WHEREAS, The Minnesota River Bluffs Regional Trail is identified in the Carver County
Comprehensive Plan for Parks
Trails and Open Space Plan;
WHEREAS, The Minnesota River Bluffs Regional Trail is identified in the City of
Comprehensive Plan for Parks and Trails:
WHEREAS, Pedestrian and bicycle trails improve the quality of life, and work to improve the
health and well -being of area residents;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Chanhassen supports an application
to the Federal Transportation Alternative Program to pave a portion of the MN River Bluffs Regional
Trail.
