SUBJ: Donation from Chanhassen Elementary School APT --
In working with Paul Krauss, a portion of the Year XV Community
Development Block Grant funds were allocated for the purchase and
installation of a handicapped accessible play area in Chanhassen.
A total of $5,868.00 was dedicated in 1990 towards this project.
This reallocation of funds was approved by the City Council at
their September 6, 1990 meeting. As work progressed in the
planning stages of this project, the Chanhassen APT was contacted,
soliciting their input. Kitty Sitter, President of the APT was
excited to learn about the possibility of new handicapped
' accessible play equipment being installed at the school. Please
find attached a letter from Ms. Sitter discussing playground
equipment at Chanhassen Elementary School. The pledge of $4, 000
towards this project then came about as a result of action taken at
a meeting of the APT's Board.
These two funding sources result in a total of $9,868 being
' available to purchase and install play equipment. Contingent upon
Council approval in 1991, staff has targeted $15,000 of the next
years Community Development Block Grant funds for this project.
This would allow for the completion of the first handicapped
accessible playground in Chanhassen in July or August of 1991. The
$40,000 figure which Ms. Sitter refers to involves a separate
capital improvement project which is shown in the 1990 capital
1 improvement budget. This money was intended to be used to assist
the school district in replacing the outdated play equipment
located to the west of the school.
1 It is recommended that the city accept the donation of $4,000 from
the Chanhassen APT to assist in the purchase and installation of a
1 handicapped play area and to send an appropriate thank you letter
to the APT.
