Dear Don:
In response to a request from the property owner living on 82nd Street and
based on our Police Department recommendation the Chaska City Council at
its August 6, 1990 meeting took action formally requesting that the Minne-
sota Department of Transportation conduct a speed zone study on 82nd
Street from Hwy. 41 westerly to County Road 13. Also, the Council took
action requesting that the speed zone be reduced to 35 mph.
Since 82nd Street is under the joint jurisdiction of Chaska and Chanhassen
the City Council felt it appropriate to request that the City of
Chanhassen also go on record requesting a reduced speed zone in the area.
The gravel road is narrow, winding, hilly, and has restrictive sight
distances but because it is not presently posted, carries a legal 55 mph
speed limit. Given these concerns and the fact that adjacent gravel roads
in Chaska, McKnight Road, and Bavaria Road are posted at 40 and 35 mph
respectively reduced speed zone would seem appropriate. Consequently, I
am writing to formally request that Chanhassen go on record supporting the
speed zone survey on 82nd Street and the reduction of the speed limit to
at least 35 mph. For your information I have attached a copy of the
letter I recently sent to Department of Transportation requesting the
study.
The City of Chaska sincerely appreciates your cooperation, and if you have
any questions regarding the request please feel free to contact me at your
convenience.
Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Katz:
The Chaska City Council at its August 6, 1990 meeting took action formally
requesting that the Minnesota Department of Transportation conduct a speed
zone study on 82nd Street between Hwy. 41 and County Road 13.
In taking this action the Council did so because they felt that the speed
zone should be reduced to no more than 35 mph in the entire length of West
82nd Street. The roadway is narrow, winding, hilly and a gravel road with a
number of restrictive sight distances. Also, the roadway is similar to
both McKnight Road and Bavaria Road which have 35 mph and 45 mph speed
limits.
Your prompt attention to these concerns is sincerely appreciated. If you
have any questions regarding the request, please feel free to contact me
at your convenience. Thank you again for your continued cooperation.
Sincerely,
