SUBJ: Approval of Plans and Specifications for Right Turn Lanes
Along T.H. 101 at Sandy Hook Road and Choctaw Circle y—/U °-
IProject No. 89-26
On May 15, 1989, the City formally requested that the Minnesota Department of
I Transportation (MnDOT) consider construction of right turn lanes on southbound
T.H. 101 at Sandy Hook Road and Choctaw Circle. The City received approval from
MnDOT on October 18, 1989 for cooperative agreement funds for the construction
Iof these turn lanes.
It will be the City's responsibility to provide the engineering and acquire any
Inecessary right of way for the project. The City will be reimbursed the State's
share of the cooperative construction cost plus eight percent (8%) of that
amount for engineering fees. The estimated construction cost of both turn lanes
is $32,000.00. This estimate does not include costs for additional right-of-way
I acquisition which is needed to construct the turn lane on Sandy Hook Road, or
engineering fees. All costs not reimbursed by MnDOT will be paid out of the
City's local State Aid Fund #415 which was set up specifically for purposes such
Ias this.
Contingent upon entering into a cooperative agreement with MnDOT and conveyance
I of right-of-way, the project is scheduled for fall, 1990 construction. If the
cooperative agreement or right-of-way acquisition is not executed, the project
will be delayed until next summer.
I Therefore, it is recommended that the City Council approve the attached
construction plans prepared by William Engelhardt & Associates and authorize
advertising for bids.
