13. Planning Commission Interviews / 3 CITYOF ----- HANHAENi A 690 COULTER DRIVE • P.O. BOX 147 • CHANHASSEN, MINNESOTA 55317 (612) 937-1900 • FAX (612) 937-5739 MEMORANDUM TO: Don Ashworth, City Manager FROM: Jo Ann Olsen, Senior Planner DATE: December 11, 1989 1 SUBJ: Planning Commissioner Interviews On December 6 , 1989, the Planning Commission interviewed six applicants for the Planning Commission position vacated by David Headla (Attachment #1) . Each candidate was asked the same set of questions and was then given a rating between 1 and 6, with 1 being the Planning Commission 's first choice. Two of the appli- cants were most highly rated, Joan Ahrens and Jeff Farmakes. The point difference was one with Jeff Farmakes being their first choice and Joan Ahrens the second choice. Since the numbers were so close, it was clear that the Planning Commission would be happy with either candidate. Some of the reasons the Planning Commission is proposing the two candidates and specifically, Jeff as the primary candidate, is their openmindedness, thought- fulness, ability to express themselves well, and have a good per- sonality to work with a group. Manager' s Recommendation I would recommend that the Council determine if they want to interview candidates and, if so, who. If not, selection should occur Monday evening. Assuming the Council does wish to inter- , view, I would suggest setting Tuesday, December 19, 7:00 p.m. This is our hearing date for the budget. 1 1 1 1 1 ,.r I CITYOF R i , CHANHASSEN . , .,. 690 COULTER DRIVE • P.O. I The review process was discussed on a preliminary basis at the special Planning Commission meeting on November 29th. It was felt that the 8 candidates should be ranked for scoring purposes I with "1" representing the candidate you believe is most qualified for the position and "8" being the least qualified. It is expected that the top 3 candidates would be sent to the City Council for further interview.
