BOX 147 • CHANHASSEN, MINNESOTA 55317 (612) 937-1900 1 MEMORANDUM TO: Gary Warren, City Engineer I6 / r FROM: Dave Hempel , Sr. Engineering Technician DATE: October 18 , 1989 1/' 1 SUBJ: Approve Resolution Requesting MnDOT to Establish a School Zone on Trunk Highway 101/west 78th Street in Front of 1 St. Huberts School File No. PW070D 1 We have received a request from the St. Huberts Church Council to establish a school zone on Trunk Highway 101/West 78th Street in front of the school . According to State Statutes ( §169 . 14 , 1 Subdivision 5A) , since Trunk Highway 101/West 78th Street is under MnDOT' s jurisdiction , the City will have to formally request MnDOT to establish this area as a school zone . In addition , the City has jurisdiction of the Great Plains Boulevard and Frontier Trail areas where the school zone should 1 also be established. It is therefore recommended that the City Council adopt a resolu- tion requesting MnDOT to establish Trunk Highway 101/West 78th 1 Street along St. Huberts School a school zone. It is further recommended that school zones be established by the City Council on Great Plains Boulevard and Frontier Trail as shown on the 1 attached map. 1 Attachments: 1. Huberts Church Council requesting action to make West 78th Street by the church a school zone . It is my understanding that they have made similar ' requests in the past, and have been frustrated with a lack of response from MnDOT. ' I have already requested extra patrol from the Carver County Sheriff 's Office, and Public Safety fully supports immediate action to in fact make this a school zone . Is this something that could be pursued immediately?
