1 SUBJ: Authorize Inspection Study for Rehabilitation of
Murray Hill Water Tower
1 File No. PW158B
The five-year capital improvement program for the water expansion
1 fund includes rehabilitation and painting of both the downtown
100 , 000 gallon elevated storage tank and the 200 , 000 gallon ele-
vated storage tank located on Murray Hill Road. As will be
recalled, this summer we successfully completed the rehabilita-
tion of the downtown elevated tank and were quite satisfactorily
pleasea with the work that was done by AEC Engineers & Designers
in the evaluation work that they performed as well as the plan
1 and specification preparation and construction inspection .
The Murray Hill water tower actually is in more dire need than
the downtown tower for rehabilitation. Unfortunately, until this
1 time , without having an auxilliary water service for the north
service area, we have not been able to take this elevated storage
tank out of service for inspection and rehabilitation . Now that
1 the Lake Lucy Road trunk watermain has been completed, this tower
can be taken down for inspection in accordance with our budgeted
plan .
1 Our intent would be to have the inspection work conducted late
fall when water demand is diminished and some of our construction
projects have been buttoned up. Rehabilitation recommendations
1 can then be prepared and plans and specifications completed so
rehabilitation work can be conducted in 1990 . We are very sati-
sified with the work that AEC Engineers does in this area and
' they are truly specialists in this type of work. It is therefore
recommended that the attached proposal from AEC be accepted and
the work be authorized.

I Subject: Proposal to inspect 200 MG Spheroid
Murray Hill Water Tower
IDear Mr.Warren:
With reference to your recent conversation,we are pleased to submit this proposal to inspect the
above referenced project in 1989.
IThe inspection will be performed in conformance with the applicable sections of the enclosed
Procedures For Inspecting Existing Steel Water Storage Tanks.
IThe interior will be examined by one or two individuals floating in a raft while the tank is being
emptied. The exterior will be examined in areas accessible without any rigging or scaffolding.
IAt the completion of the inspection,we will submit an Inspection Report, certified by a professional
engineer. The Report will include color photographs of the conditions discovered during the
inspection,as well as cost estimates of any work required. Two copies of the Report will be
Isubmitted.
If the tank can be drained in one day,the total inspection charge will be$1,800.00,including the
I Certified Inspection Report. The charge for each additional day on the job site will be$800.00 per
day.
Should any tank reconditioning work be required,AEC can prepare the project specifications, help
Iselect qualified contractors, and monitor the project for conformance to the specifications.
If you find our proposal acceptable, please sign and return a copy of this letter.
IWe look forward to working with you on this project. The enclosed brochure will provide you with
additional information about our firm.
