MEMORANDUM ,
TO: Don Ashworth, City Manager 3-22 41
FROM: Gary Warren, City Engineer °
DATE: March 20 , 1989 .______a - -7- ;1
SUBJ: Accept Aerial Photography/Topographic Mapping Proposal and
Authorize Contract Negotiation
File No. PW125
In January the City of Chanhassen requested proposals from four
aerial photographic services companies for aerial photography and
orthophoto contour mapping of 18 sections of the City. This con-
tour mapping is vital to assist with storm water management
planning and subdivision planning. The mapping will be done at a
2-foot contour interval which will greatly aid our engineering
and planning efforts.
The initial proposals received were quite diverse both in scope
and content and considerable time was spent in analyzing each
quote. This is a budgeted item in the 1989 budget (Fund 415 ) .
The proposals received are as follows:
With Without
Ground Control Ground Control
Aero-Metric, Inc. $54 ,510 $74,225
Martinez Corporation $59, 290 $71 ,470
Horizons , Inc. $74,370 $81 , 370
Mark Hurd, Inc. $74 ,535 $82 ,795
Due to the large deviation in ground control quotes, our intent
will be to further define the ground control element and nego-
tiate a competitive rate for this service. Right now the ground
control element has ranged from $7 ,000 to $19 , 715.
I have had previous experience with the Aero-Metric firm and am
confident they will provide the City with a high-quality product.
They have visited with staff as a part of the proposal process
and have a very good understanding of our needs .
It is therefore recommended that the proposal from Aero-Metric,
Inc. be accepted and staff be authorized to negotiate a contract
within the City ' s $80 ,000 budget for this item.
