The program was created to reward residents, businesses and builders in our community who make a contribution to the health and well-being of our natural environment. The Council gave the Commission positive feedback on the program and encouraged them to finish the details associated with the award. The Commission has done that and is now asking that the council officially approve the program and its funding so that it may be implemented next year. Awards for each category would be as follows: e Residential winners would receive a birdhouse or birdfeeder engraved with the name of the award and the year won. There would be one overall winner and an unlimited number of runners-up in this category. The Commission would like to ask the Senior Men's or woodworking group to construct the birdfeeders or birdhouses. Approximate cost of each award is $10 or less. e Business/Commercial and Builder/Developers would receive a plaque or trophy with the category and year won. There would be first, second and third place winners per category. The commission also envisions a large plaque displayed somewhere in city hall with the names of each year's winners. Approximate cost of each award is less than $ I 00. The cost for a large plaque is undetermined. Representatives from the Commission visited the June 20th Chamber of Commerce meeting to ask for support. It was unanimously approved by all present. The Commission now hopes that the Council will give their approval for this outstanding project. If the Council supports the program, the commission would like to advertise the program at the July 3 trade fair. . . 'he City of Chanhassen.
