13e. Downtown Landscaping Update CITY OF _______ 1 , AN EN 690 COULTER DRIVE • P.O. BOX 147 • CHANHASSEN, MINNESOTA 55317 I (612) 937-1900 MEMORANDUM ...- ITO: Don Ashworth, City Manager ,_ _e._' 10- IFROM: Gary Warren, City Engineer ,_ - DATE: August 9 , 1989 r ;t .ur.I; 1 7„ , 40% SUBJ: Downtown Landscaping Update - File No. 86-11A-8 I Since I will be on vacation August 14 , 1989 , I thought it would be helpful to update the Council on the status of the downtown landscaping repairs . As you are aware, Noble Nursery removed the I majority of dead plant stock on Friday, July 28 , 1989 . Likewise, City staff has removed the weed growth from the planting areas . As a result of our meeting held with representatives of BRW on Monday, August 8 , 1989 , the attached plan of study has been sub- 1 mitted by BRW for removing and replacing the plant material as well as assessing the existing design for deficiences and correcting these deficiences as a part of the program. It is I anticipated that resolution of this matter will happen shortly with a final planting list provided to Noble Nursery no later than August 15 , 1989 . IThe implications of this action should result in the City receiving the landscaping that it had intended for the downtown area while addressing some of the design concerns and contractor I problems which have been raised over the past year. The commit- ment from all parties is to have this matter resolved by the close of this fall ' s planting season. As you I think are aware , I the fall planting season commences August 15 . As has been con- veyed to us by representatives of BRW, the landscape repairs and any modifications will be completed within the City ' s present Phase I planting budget. It appears that this matter is moving I rapidly to resolution and I would expect that we will see some of the new plantings and modifications occurring prior to the next City Council meeting . I will keep you appraised of further deve- 1 lopments as they occur in this regard. Attachments : 1. August 7 , 1989 memorandum from BRW. I2 .
