1 MEMORANDUM
1 TO: Don Ashworth, City Manager
FROM: Jim Chaffee, Public Safety Director
DATE: July 5, 1989
SUBJ : Verbatim Public Safety Commission Minutes
1
As we have discussed in the past, it is staff ' s desire to have
1 the Public Safety Commission minutes transcribed verbatim. This
has proven useful in the past when issues have been discussed and
the intent of the Commission needs to be determined. It has also
proven useful to Commission members who were not able to attend
1 the previous months meeting. They can then read the minutes and
obtain the flavor of the discussions regarding each issue .
1 The funding necessary to accomplish verbatim minutes would most
likely be no more than $1, 000 . 00 on a yearly basis to cover the
overtime involved for Carol Dunsmore to transcribe the minutes .
1 Recommendation
It is staff ' s recommendation to provide verbatim minutes of the
1 Public Safety Commission meetings with allocated yearly costs of
$1, 000 . 00 .
1 Manager' s Comments: I see Jim' s memorandum as advisory. Jim' s
responsibility is to insure that expenditures of the Public
Safety Department stay within budget. Modifying work schedules
1 or authorizing overtime is a management function which requires
measuring our ability to get the job done within resources allo-
cated. I am sure that Jim can do the job. -D
