LMC/AMMseeks city official to servE
on ramp meter hiring committee
All 430 Twin Cities ramp
, meters will be shut down
for a time this fall and the,
results of the study will be
released to the legislature and
to the public by Feb. 1,2001.
YOUR HELP IS NEEDEDI
The League of Minnesota
Cities (LMC)/AMM is seeking
one city official to serve on the
MnDOT hiring committee, which
will receive bids from consult-
ants interested in conducting
the ramp meter study. That city
official will assist MnDOT in
reviewing the RFPs and make a
consultant selection.
If you are interested in meet-
ing once or twice with MnDOT
during the month of July to'
select a consultant and direct

The suècessful consultant
bidder is likely to conduct
field tests, analyze
accident reports and
use MnDOT Traffic
Management
Center car-
counting data, as
well. as focus
groups or telephone
surveys of commut-
ers and travelers.
According to
MnDOT, about a dozen consult-
ants are interested in condLich
ing the study and have until July
17 to submit bids. Éxactly how
the study will proceed and what
it will cost will-remain in the air
until a consultant is selected,
which is expected to happen by
July 31.
Currently, MnDOT uses the
ramps to control traffic flow on
about 210 miles of freeways in
the Twin Cities metropolitan
area. It first began rarnp meter-
ing in 1969 as a way to improve
freeway safety and efficiency.
The study w.ill focus on the
effects of meters on traffic flow
and safety in selected test COrri-
dors. Among factors to be exam·
ined are the impacts on travel
times and accident rates, as well
as the effects on local
streets of traffic
diverted from
freeways.
The study will
also compare the
Twin Cities ramp
meter system with
. other metropolitan
areas in the nation.
,
Three goals of the study,
which was ordered by the legiS-
lature earlier this year are;
· To det~rmjne whether the
benefits of metering outweigh thE
costs and drawbacks. To answel
this question, comparisons of
traffic flow and safety will be
made with the meters on and off
· To describe the effect me-
tering has on local streets and
freeway bus routes.
· To compare-Minnesota's
metering system with those in
other cities, describe the national
trend in meter use and report the
results of meter studies else-
where.

EXCELSIOR, MN 55331
Dear MS MANCINO:
The Metropolitan Council research staff has prepared a preliminary population and household
estimate as of April 1, 1999 for your community. Enclosed for your review is a 1998 worksheet
which includes 1990 Census background data.
The estimates are used by the Council to monitor population and household change throughout
the region. We strive to provide accurate estimates that treat municipalities consistently.
Questions concerning how the estimates are determined should be directed to me at (612) 602-
1332 or bye-mail atkathv.iohnson@metc.state.mn.us.
No reply from you is necessary. If you have comments regarding the estimates please submit
them to me in writing. This will ensure that issues are addressed in a timely manner.
The Department of Revenue requests finalized estimates from us by late June for use in their
local aid and other formulas. To comply, we need to hear from you by June 21, 2000. Thank
you for your prompt attention to this matter.
Sincerely,

Re: City of Chanhassen v. Pox Properties Limited Partnership, et al.
Carver County Court Pile No, C8-99-1713
Dear Virginia:
Judge Isabel Gomez has scheduled a condemnation matter I have before her for a two
day court trial on Tuesday, July 18 and Wednesday, July 19.
We currently have half day sessions in this matter scheduled for Monday, July 17,
Wednesday, July 19, and Thursday, July 20. There is certainly the possibility that my trial
before Judge Gomez will either settle or possibly be completed in one day on July 18.
However, at this point in time I am no longer available for hearing on Wednesday, July 19.
My preference would be to still commence hearings on Monday, July 17. We can then
reconvene on either Wednesday, July 19 as planned if my trial settles or on Thursday, July 20.
I look forward to your response.
Best regards;
