Joint Meeting with the Environmental Commission
The Environmental Commission is looking forward to their opportunity to share
their past accomplishments, current work plan and future goals.
Environmental Commission Goals
· Support efforts to implement goals in chapter 3 of the Comprehensive Plan.
· Promote native vegetation.
* Arbor Day event
* Spring or Fall tree sales
* Encourage tree planting
* Encourage native landscaping, such as prairies
· Public education on water/wetland issues.
* Water Festival
* Develop lawn/water issues educational materials
* Coordinate prairie/wetland seeding project
· Evaluate hauler services in regard to contractual agreements.
* Create consumer education on hauler/recycling issues.
* Survey haulers for interest in food waste composting program.
· Encourage and assist businesses, organizations and private citizens to
beautify/enhance their environments.
* Pollution Prevention Week
* Partnerships, such as Carver Cty. and other agencies and/or businesses
plus city staff, to support beautification programs.
* Award program, 'Environmental Excellence', for businesses, residents,
schools, and community groups

· Strategic Plan completed in 1999, used as basis for 2000 work plan

· Climb Theater visited local schools in the fall of 1999 and spring of 2000.
Funding came trom Carver County.
· Villager Articles: 'Dark Skies' by Jack Atkins, 'Reducing Holiday Waste' by
Dotti Shay and Jo Mueller, 'Climb Theater' by Jo Mueller
· 2000 Work Plan. For the first time, the Commission organized it annual
calendar in order to accomplish its goals in the most efficient and effective
manner. It was possible due to the completed Strategic Plan.

The Environmental Excellence Award is provided by the City of
Chanhassen, in cooperation with the Chanhassen Chamber of Commerce,
to recognize environmental improvements and encourage environmental
stewardship throughout the community. This award is designed not only
to recognize achievement, but also to communicate new ideas and help
educate the members of the Chanhassen community of all the possibilities.
EliGIBILITY: Those eligible to submit or nominate for the award include:
residents, businesses, manufacturers, builders, landscape and grounds
companies, educational groups and institutions, waste haulers, agricultural
interests and community groups. The majority of the environmental
impact must occur within the city limits of Chanhassen. Projects are to be
completed in year previous. Application due by Jan. 31, xxxx
APPliCATION PROCEDURE: Review the Eligible Activities listed under
Categories A, B, and C. Choose one of the sub-categories that you have
completed in the past year. Complete the application form and mail it to:
